The Zen Drupal theme is said to be a "starter" theme; that is to say, it can easily be adapted by integrating the desired design without the need to "undo" the theme styles and without starting from scratch. The zen theme therefore makes it easier to integrate design into web projects.

Zoning represents the first step in designing the solution. It is the framework, the initial draft of the future interface. The goal is to place the elements in the best possible location to give structure to the system.
