Our missions

- Drupal development and custom modules
- Multilingual content management
- Data import
The context
Each year, the Delcourt Group publishes around 700 new releases (BD, Comics, Manga), including major authors and series that regularly win awards. Comics are the DNA of Delcourt. This DNA is based on four worlds:
- Franco-Belgian comics
- Manga
- Comics
- Youth
Founded in 1986, Éditions Delcourt covers all the themes and subjects of this publishing sector (testimonials, reports, contemporary fiction, science fiction, popular science, historical accounts, crime fiction, humor, etc.). The series Walking Dead, Les Légendaires, Les Blagues de Toto stand alongside the greatest names in the 9th art, such as Chloé Cruchaudet, François Bourgeon, Guy Delisle, Marc-Antoine Mathieu, Marion Montaigne, Trondheim, Chris Ware, Zep…
In 2011, a major change took place when Éditions Soleil joined the Delcourt Group. In 25 years, Soleil has built an extensive catalog, gradually expanding its editorial choices, and is recognized and acclaimed by both the public and critics alike.
Objectives and scope
The objectives of the redesign:
- Connect the two brands to the identity of the Delcourt Group: both site interfaces are built on the same foundation. They offer variations of the visual guidelines (colors and logo).
- Improve search within the main catalog
- Significantly enhance the mobile experience
- Emphasize the importance of video
- More clearly distinguish between professional and general public access
- Improve the content contribution experience
- Increase traffic and conversion throughout the user journeys
Scope covered:
- Multilingual content management
- Catalog import
- Agenda import (internal API)
- Series pages and minisites
- Collection pages
- Author import and management
- Professional area
- Press area
- Rights cession area
- Management of the shared account for both sites
The connector to the PIM
One of the major challenges of the project was to merge several connectors with catalogue repatriation feeds. We had to cross-reference the entities brought in from the Hachette feed and match them with the PIM of Editions Delcourt in order to have all the up-to-date data. Today, data updates take place twice a day, only for new or modified data.
The technical architecture
Content management is handled through the Paragraphs module, used to make the offered experiences more varied. Many custom modules have been developed to meet the requirements specified in the initial specifications. They mainly concern:
- Wording adjustments were required to meet SEO requirements (overriding the Breadcrumb module, as well as the handling of <title> and <meta description> tags).
- Importing the catalog required intensive, fully bespoke development.
- A custom module enables the automatic export of orders every 15 days.
- Providing dedicated administration spaces for professionals and booksellers required a custom module, particularly to override translation management.
All development was planned to fully comply with Varnish cache requirements, ensuring optimal display performance for anonymous users.
What our client, Éditions Delcourt and Soleil, thinks about it
"Thank you for your work this year, it was difficult but we made it. We are very happy with the result of the Delcourt website. I especially want to congratulate Marion, and of course Jean for the SEO part."
