A concrete response to a technological gap
The Aegir project’s end has left a void in the community: this open-source project, a historic cornerstone of Drupal multisite management, enabled hundreds of technical teams to deploy, update, and manage multiple sites from a single console.
But over time, the evolution of Drupal (8, 9, 10, and soon 11) made its maintenance difficult, and its ecosystem faded away. Faced with this, we decided to pick up the torch, with a clear vision: to offer a modern, intuitive, and sustainable solution to efficiently manage Drupal site factories.
Two years of R&D at the heart of our agency
This project engaged a significant part of our technical team: Drupal architects, DevOps, UX/UI designers, and project managers—all contributed to envisioning a console tailored to today’s needs.
Over two years, we:
- analyzed the real needs of our clients and the community (governance, pooling, security);
- studied Aegir’s limitations to understand what needed to be reconsidered;
- prototyped, tested, iterated… again and again, until we designed a tool that is both robust and accessible.
Dropfactory is the result, with its modular architecture and redesigned interface.
Our goal: to enable any administrator or web team, even without advanced system skills, to manage dozens of Drupal sites from a single dashboard.
A strong partnership with Evolix
We had the opportunity to carry out this project hand in hand with Evolix, our provider for hosting and open source infrastructure.
Evolix contributed its expertise in:
- designing a highly available architecture,
- securing deployments,
- standardizing server environments,
- and integrating with open source monitoring and backup tools.
This partnership ensured Dropfactory a reliable, scalable technical foundation that follows open source best practices.
What exactly is Dropfactory?
Dropfactory is a multi-site administration console that lets you create, manage, and oversee all your Drupal sites from a single interface.
Specifically, Dropfactory allows you to:
- Deploy a new Drupal site with a single click, no command lines needed.
- Manage your backups and restorations automatically.
- Integrate multiple site templates to suit your various needs (showcase, e-commerce, institutional, etc.).
- Monitor all your sites from an ergonomic dashboard.
- Sort and filter your projects by type or status.
Whether you are a local authority, an agency, or a multi-brand company, Dropfactory simplifies life for web teams while ensuring large-scale technical and editorial consistency.
A 100% open source project, made in France
At bluedrop.fr, as we often tell you, open source is a founding value. Since our beginnings, we have contributed to Drupal, shared our developments, and worked with a mindset of transparency and community collaboration.
With Dropfactory, we remain true to this philosophy:
- the source code is freely available on GitHub;
- anyone can install, test, and improve the solution;
- we encourage feedback, issues, and pull requests from the community.
This openness is essential: it allows Dropfactory to grow, evolve, and meet diverse needs, while staying aligned with Drupal standards and modern DevOps practices.
Designed for organizations: flexibility, governance, autonomy
Dropfactory is not a tool reserved for technicians. It was designed to serve the needs of three types of users:
- Technical teams, who save time thanks to automated deployments and backups;
- Marketing/communication teams, who have a consistent framework to manage their content and sites without technical intervention;
- Decision-makers / IT directors, who can monitor the state of the site factory, streamline costs, and ensure technical compliance.
In other words: Dropfactory means more coherence, less complexity.

Calling all developers: test DropFactory!
The launch is only the first step! Like all new digital solutions, Dropfactory will need testers and feedback to live, grow, and improve.
We therefore invite the entire Drupal community to:
- test the tool on their own infrastructure;
- share their feedback and suggestions for improvement;
- contribute to the code through issues or pull requests.
Dropfactory, the natural continuation of the Aegir spirit, modernized and reinvented by a team passionate about Drupal and open source
With this solution, we want to empower organizations to efficiently manage their Drupal ecosystems, while sharing our work with the community.
