Higher School for Fire Brigade Officers

Date of release : September 2021

ENSOSP, the National School for Fire Service Officers in Aix-en-Provence, entrusted the redesign of its institutional website to the agency bluedrop.fr. Beyond updating the content and revitalizing the school's image, the main focus of the redesign was to make the new site simple and efficient.

Our missions
  • Functional and technical specifications
  • UX design
  • UI design
  • Development
  • Contributor training
  • Maintenance

The context of the redesign of the ENSOSP website

The ENSOSP trains all fire officer cadets in management, operational command, and crisis management. On average, 6,000 fire officers are trained there each year. The School also organizes training courses in firefighting, emergency response, and crisis management for elected officials, public servants, corporate managers, and both French and foreign experts.

Scope of the redesign:

  • Drafting of detailed functional specifications (in workshops with the ENSOSP team);
  • User experience (UX) design;
  • User interface (UI) design;
  • Development with Drupal 9;
  • Optimization for SEO ranking;
  • Compliance with accessibility standards;
  • Training of site contributors and administrators;
  • Provision of a deployment procedure for the ENSOSP IT department;
  • Maintenance after go-live.

UX and UI design

The design focused on simplifying user journeys during the UX phase (persona workshops, building user journeys, and designing wireframes).

It then aimed to refresh the school's visual identity and its image, which is now more modern and dynamic. The goal was to deliver a technically robust and sustainable website.

Development with Drupal 9

The site is powered by Drupal 9. This is a typical corporate website, designed to inform and guide users to the school's various digital tools, without unnecessary animated features.

The theme and content management are based on:

And its contributed Drupal theme which makes it easier to integrate an "atomic" approach with reusable components and clear guidelines for teams.

A unique content type

Distributed across the various sections of the site by a taxonomy term and enhanced by the use of 14 paragraphs (paragraphs module).

Custom module

We have also connected the site to the DAM (Digital Assets Management) of ENSOSP - https://www.ephoto.fr. While we developed a small custom module to ensure the connection to the ephoto account and the ENSOSP albums, we also used:

  • The Ephoto Dam Addon module, which allows you to import images, videos, or documents directly into the Drupal site in the right format—including into the CKeditor fields;
  • The Video Embed Field ePhoto module, which allows you to import and display a video directly on the Drupal site by simply applying a link.
